SNIPPET SATURDAY - Boys of Summer

Nothin's hotter than summer in Texas unless it's the Annual Cowboy Auction!

BLURB

Welcome Back to the Ugly Stick Saloon

Bunny Leigh really shouldn’t care that her ex is days away from getting remarried. Yet the fact he’s getting hitched to the woman he cheated on her with stings more than she cares to admit.

It’s that sting that drives her to impulsively throw a bid in the annual Ugly Stick Saloon Cowboy Auction. To her surprise, she lands not only one of the best-looking men in the tri-county area, but two. The prospect of keeping up with two younger men has the shy florist quaking in her flower pots.

Little does she know, best friends Cory McBride and Jack Monahan made doubly sure their favorite florist won them both. But now they have their work cut out for them, convincing her they want more than one steamy night. They want a chance at forever.

Warning: A cop, a cowboy and a flower shop owner make the petals fly! And look what happens when the Ferris wheel stops at the top. Bring a fan, the heat’s rising at the Ugly Stick Saloon.

EXCERPT

“I don’t need a second chance. Once was bad enough. I don’t think I’m ready to float that boat again.” Although the two men on the stage could more than set her sails. Holy hell, they were built like brick houses, all muscle—hard, finely chiseled muscle.

“If not for love, then date for fun or a release from stress.” Audrey threw her hand in the air.
Why not satisfy your sexual fantasies? Anything to get you out of your shell, girlfriend.”

“One thousand dollars!” Charli shouted into the microphone. “Ladies, this is twice the spice for the money. Don’t stop now.” She nodded toward the throng. “One thousand one hundred from number forty-one.”

“A thousand dollars?” Bunny did the math in her head. “I’d have to sell a lot of roses to afford those two.”
“Raise your paddle. Remember, I’ll double whatever you can afford.”

Even as Bunny shook her head, her fingers tightened around the paddle’s wooden stick. “I can’t.”

“Yes. You can. It’s just a date,” Audrey insisted. “Think about what Cory can do with that whip. And Jack has handcuffs.”

Cory cracked the whip, and number thirty-seven raised her paddle, bumping the bid up another one hundred dollars.

Bunny’s heartbeat accelerated. She had over two grand in savings for a rainy day and maybe to pay off her ex when she got a little more saved. That money was not earmarked for a hot date with two sexy men.
It still galled her to no end that Ray got half of her business in the divorce, Texas being a community property state. Out of the “goodness of his heart” Ray had let her keep the flower shop, as long as she paid him for his half over time, as a loan. He never let her forget it either, always giving her his unwanted opinion on how to run the flower shop. Spending so much money on a date would have him questioning her ability to stay in business. He might even foreclose on his loan.

“Going once,” Charli said.

“What?” Bunny’s breath caught and she leaned so far forward on her stool she almost slid off.

“Going twice.” Charli paused. “They’re a steal at twelve hundred dollars. Come on ladies, won’t one of you bid thirteen hundred?”

Bunny’s hand shook, her grip clenching on the paddle. Before she could analyze her actions, she raised her paddle.

“Is that Bunny Leigh back there near the bar?” Charli shielded her eyes from the glare of the stage lights.
“Y’all gonna let Temptation’s best florist go home with the two most drool-worthy men in the county?”

Cory and Jack stared across the room, straight at Bunny, both smiling.

Her pulse accelerated until she thought for certain her heart would jump right out of her chest. Her gaze panned the room, praying someone else would raise a paddle quickly before she bought the cowboy and the cop.

Charli grinned, and before anyone else could get a paddle above shoulder-high, she pounded her gavel on the podium and shouted, “Sold!”

Snippet Saturday - Life in a Small Town

Ever noticed how life in a small town can be so....friendly? Never friendlier than in Temptation, Texas:

BOOTS AND LACE

Welcome back to the Ugly Stick Saloon!

She wants no strings…but he wants it all.

After her philandering husband left her, Lacey Lambert found sanctuary, and a better class of friends, at the Ugly Stick Saloon. Where she learned that the best revenge—against her ex, and the “friends” who kicked her out of the Temptation Garden Club—is to live life to the fullest.

Now that her best friend is moving out of her apartment building, she’s feeling a little lonely. And more than ready for a little commitment-free sex with the hot new downstairs tenant.

Freshly divorced, Nick McBride isn’t looking for another failed relationship. But when the luscious brunette offers no-strings sex—with him and his brother—he can’t come up with a good reason to refuse.
After he gets over the shock that she likes it loud, long, and in front of an open window, he finds himself wanting more time with her. Maybe even on a permanent basis. But it’ll take every ounce of his cowboy charms to convince her to let him sweep her off her feet.

Excerpt

“I can give you a boost.” Nick locked his fingers, cupped his hands and bent.

Cory stuck his foot in Nick’s hands and reached for the alarm. He could barely grasp it enough to unhook it from the old building’s high ceiling. “Got it.”

“Now, pull the old battery out and leave the rest hanging until you can get another battery. And hurry it up, will ya? My fingers are slipping.”

“Just a minute. The damned battery is being stubborn.”

“I’m serious, I’m about to drop you.” Nick swayed, his fingers slipping apart.

“Just…one…more…”

A knock on the door startled both men.

Nick lost his grip, Cory fell and both men landed on the floor as the door opened to the beautiful waitress from the Ugly Stick Saloon, wearing that breast-huggin white tank top, the shorter-than-short pair of jean cutoffs and bearing a tray filled with cheesy, gooey pizza.

She smiled, bent and scooped up both their towels, which had dropped loose when they’d fallen. Balancing the pizza tray with one hand and the towels looped over the other, she raised her eyebrows. “Having a little fun without me?”

Nick felt the heat rise from his chest into his face when he realized what this must look like. Cory lay draped across him in a highly suggestive position. At least he covered Nick’s privates from the woman’s view.

Cory laughed out loud. “Lacey, I wondered when you would show up. Kendall said you’d probably stop by to say hello.”

“Did she?” Lacey’s eyes narrowed. “What else did she say?”

Cory’s grin broadened. “She said to watch out that you were on the prowl.”

“She’s a bigmouth, but since I’m here…” She waggled her eyebrows, her gaze panning over both men’s groins. “Of course, if you’re gay, maybe you can let me watch, or I’ll pretend to be a boy and we can all have a little fun.”

Nick choked and jumped to his feet, his hands forming a fig leaf over his crotch.

Cory chortled. “Ah, Lacey, nothing like cutting to the chase. We were just trying to kill the smoke detector and fell.”

Lacey pouted. “Well, darn.” Her gaze went to Nick, sliding down his chest to where his hands covered his privates.

“Do you mind?” Nick held out his hand for a towel, the heat her gaze generated pooling in his groin.

“A shame to cover something so fine.” She grinned and tossed him the towel. “So, are you interested?”

Welcome back to the Ugly Stick Saloon!

This short story (5000 words) is the prequel to BOOTS AND BAREBACK published by Samhain Publishing.
A cowboy can't possibly be happy in NYC, can he?
Ella Lang followed her dream to be on stage all the way to New York City, with the approval and support of the love of her life, Jesse O'Brien, a genuine, died-in-the-cowhide Texas cowboy. For months, Jesse has pounded the pavement and has yet to find a job befitting a man used to horses, boots and wide-open spaces. Though it breaks her heart, it's time to cut her lover loose and let him mosey on back to the Rockin' O Ranch, his roots and the family and horse he loves.
Look out Ella, this cowboy has other plans...

Excerpt
Ella Lang stood in the bedroom doorway of her tiny Manhattan apartment, staring at the man she loved more than life.

Jesse James O’Brien lay spread out naked across the sheets. Six feet three inches of muscled cowboy, his feet hanging over the end of the double bed, the most gorgeous specimen of masculinity a woman could ever hope for.

The night had been grueling at the theater. Nothing had gone right. Stage props hadn’t cooperated. Ella had not one, but three, wardrobe malfunctions and missed one of her cues.

Her focus hadn’t been on her performance, so much as on this man, this fish-out-of-water cowboy who had no business moving to New York just because she had.

Hindsight being twenty-twenty, Ella knew she should never have let him come. He belonged in Texas on the Rockin’ O Ranch with his father and brothers and sister, not cooped up in a postage-stamp apartment, searching for work in a city that preferred celebrities over honest, hard-working cowboys.

God, he looked so peaceful, lying sprawled across the bed.

Ella didn’t want to wake him. Instead, she eased around the corner of the bed and entered the tiny bathroom, peeled off her clothes and showered away the residual stage makeup and hairspray that was as much a part of a performer’s life as her voice and acting. She towel-dried her hair and debated slipping into a nightgown or just sleeping naked like Jesse. After only a moment’s hesitation, her pussy growing warm and wet, she opted for naked. She hung the towel on the towel bar and turned to switch off the light. At that moment, she noticed the blue jeans hanging on a hook on the back of the bathroom door.

Jesse’s jeans.

She lifted them down and hugged them to her chest, the scent of Jesse and denim reminding her of Texas and the home she’d left to follow her dreams. Visions of wide-open spaces and fields of fresh green hay came to mind, kicking her in the gut with a truckload of homesickness. Refusing to give into the ready tears building in her eyes, Ella folded the jeans over her arm, intent on hanging them in the closet in the bedroom.

Something dropped from one of the pockets and bounced off her foot, causing her to glance down. On the floor beside her lay a tiny box.

Heart thumping, Ella bent to retrieve it, her knees nearly giving way as she realized what it was. The little blue package with a pretty white bow had bold black letters spelling Tiffany & Co written in neat script across the top.

Excerpt

As he shifted into park, he glanced up at the window to Kendalls apartment. The blinds were open and Kendall stood with her side to the window, wearing nothing but a thin, lace bra and thong panties. She turned her back to the window and unclipped the bra, letting it fall down over her arms to the floor.
She might as well be naked—the thin strap of the thong cutting a line between her butt cheeks hid nothing.
Ed moaned, his cock twitched, and blood rushed in to make it swell behind his zipper. He forced anger to follow the powerful rush of lust. Did the girl have so little sense as to leave her window wide open so that any peeping Tom could look in?
With the storm of lust and righteous anger driving him forward, Ed leaped out of the car, passed the door to his apartment on the first floor and took the steps two at a time to the upper apartment where Kendall lived. He hammered on the door until Kendall flung it open.
"Oh, Ed." She cupped her hands over her naked breasts, like that did anything to hide their beautiful, lush fullness from Eds vision. "Wheres the fire?"
Ed pushed past her and marched to the window on the other side of the apartment, yanking the string on the shade so hard, the shade popped out of its slot and clattered to the floor.
Kendall giggled behind him, her eyes going wide when Ed glared.
He gathered the shade from the floor, fit the ends into the slot and lowered it with more precision and care this time. When he was done, he faced Kendall, and breathed a sigh to find her clutching a shirt to her chest. "Dont undress in front of the window. I thought your mother taught you better than that."
"Theres not anyone on this street whod care but Old Man Frantzen." She tossed her hair. "Im sure hes so blind he couldnt see that far anyway."
Ed jerked his thumb toward the window. "You never know what perverts are lurking out there looking for an eyeful. And honey, you were giving an eyeful and then some."
Her eyelids closed to half-mast and she sidled close. "Perverts? Hum…sounds interesting." Slim fingers climbed up his chest and the shirt she held slipped lower, letting one perky nipple peek through.
Ed reached out and lifted the shirt to cover her flesh, realizing his mistake as soon as the backs of his fingers brushed over her naked skin. Stifling a groan, he jumped back. "Just close the blinds before you strip, will ya?"
"Yes, sir!" Kendall popped a salute.
That pesky shirt slipped down again to expose the other pretty breast.
A moan escaped Ed's throat and he dove for the door.

BOOTS AND CHAPS
by Myla Jackson

Blurb
Welcome back to the Ugly Stick Saloon!

She gave up stripping to go legit…until three Kiowa cowboys bring on the down-and-dirty.

Jackson Gray Wolf is turning thirty, and what does he have to show for it? A ranch. No wife, no kids, no dates. He’s had his eye on the pretty owner of the Ugly Stick Saloon, but their one accidental encounter was interrupted before he could get her out of her take-me-now red cowboy boots.

Audrey Anderson isn’t in the market for a man. Been there, done that, has the scars to prove it. She retired her pole-dancing boots after purchasing the Ugly Stick Saloon, and now manages a stable of strippers. When she winds up one stripper short for a private party, she’s forced to slip on a mask and into the role of the mysterious Kiki.

Jackson didn’t want the birthday bash his twin brothers are throwing him, but his vow to ignore the rented stripper goes awry when she shows him exactly how far she’s willing to go—for all three of them.
Audrey can’t forget the sizzling heat between her and one sexy Kiowa in particular. Jackson. Trouble is, she’s not sure if he wants the bold, brassy Kiki, or if he’s ready for the wounded woman underneath.

Excerpt

Jackson Gray Wolf had just about had enough of the loud music, shouts from drunken cowboys and the smell of alcohol that permeated the air at the Ugly Stick Saloon. If not for the company of the owner-bartender, Audrey Anderson, he’d have left hours ago and returned to collect his twin brothers, Mark and Luke, at last call.

Mark whirled by on the dance floor to a lively two-step, a red-haired cowgirl tucked tightly against his body.

“About ready to head home?” Jackson called out as his brother turned and guided his partner toward the other end of the floor.

“Nope.” Mark twirled the girl and hollered, “Hell yeah!” to the song the band was playing.

Luke swung by with a pretty brunette. “Maybe an hour?” He grinned broadly. “Why aren’t you dancin’?”

Jackson shrugged. “Not in the mood.” Truth was, he hadn’t been in the mood for the past six months. With his thirtieth birthday fast approaching, he’d fallen into a funk the size of Texas and couldn’t figure out why. The girls there tonight were just that…girls. Young girls, silly girls, girls who giggled at nearly every word he said. Where were the more mature women?

“What’s got you down, Jackson?” Audrey plunked a cup of coffee in front of him and leaned over the counter, her brow wrinkled into a frown. “You haven’t been yourself lately.”

“Who said there’s somethin’ wrong?” He curled his fingers around the mug, letting the heat warm him.

“You used to be out there dancing with the twins like it was some kind of race.”

“I’m gettin’ too old for that nonsense.”

She straightened, her brows rising into the fringe of strawberry-blonde hair hanging down over her forehead. “Hey, if you’re gettin’ too old, what does that make me? A hag?”

Jackson’s gaze went to the V of Audrey’s blouse where the rounded curves of her breasts pushed up. “Far from it, baby.”

She tapped his hand. “Hey, the eyes are up here.”

A grin stretched Jackson’s lips wide, and he glanced up into Audrey’s baby-blue eyes. “I know that, but the view was better where I was at.”

“Jerk.” Despite her word, her eyes danced.

A customer leaned against the bar and ordered two whiskey shooters. Audrey turned to the array of bottles lining the wall behind the bar and reached for the brand of whiskey the man had asked for. No skinny minnie, Audrey had a curvy ass encased in skin-hugging, washed-out jeans. An ass a man could get his hands on.

Jackson’s groin tightened. Now here was a real woman, the kind he could sink his…er…teeth into.

Audrey’s snug jeans molded to the curve of her butt and thighs, narrowing down the length of her long, beautiful legs to tuck neatly into go-to-hell, bright red cowboy boots, which sported diamond-shaped metal studs. She wore those boots just about everywhere.

Born and raised in the Texas panhandle, Audrey knew what Jackson knew—the only way to get what you wanted was to work hard and maybe break a few well-chosen rules along the way. And she’d done just that to get this bar started. Modeled after the Coyote Ugly bar in New York City, Audrey had hired only the pretty waitresses who could dance, some who could sing and all of which could sling drinks like a pro. As a side, she provided strippers, both male and female, for private parties, bachelorette parties and special occasions.

Tough but fair is what each of her girls would say about her. And the tips were good, so none of them complained about Audrey’s hard-line approach. And to think, Audrey had accomplished all that in her twenties. She’d beat Jackson to thirty last year, celebrating her birthday with the two-year anniversary of the Ugly Stick Saloon. It had been a big blowout party with a live band, cheap beer and free rides home to those who couldn’t drive themselves.

She had this bar-owner thing down like it was second nature. Some men found it intimidating. Jackson thought Audrey was sexy as hell. He’d toyed with the idea of asking her out, only to talk himself out of it too many times to count, always waiting for the right moment, the right situation. That right moment had never happened. Now, it felt like he’d missed his chance.
