Hearts & Heroes, Book 1
After a particularly difficult operation in Somalia, Master Sergeant Wyatt Magnus is stuck with “light” duty providing anti-terrorist security for delegates at the International Trade Convention in San Antonio.

As he settles in for what he expects will be an easy assignment, he discovers he’s got a whole new kind of battle on his hands with the convention’s director, a tightly packaged, five-foot-nothing, sexy piece of work with an iron fist.

Under pressure to bring foreign dignitaries to the River Walk without a hitch, Fiona Allen doesn’t have time to babysit a Special Forces grunt with a superiority complex. Even if just looking at him makes her mouth water.

When a hotel snafu lands them in the same room, at first she’s steaming mad. Then burning up in smoking-hot desire. But even as she tells herself he’s a one-time ride, trouble is brewing behind the scenes. The kind of trouble with a vendetta—and a detonator.

Warning: Contains one hot hero with a gift for strategic placement of his hands, one fiery redhead who’d like to make a career out of exploring every rippling muscle, and one hotel room that’s about to see some serious action. Fire extinguisher recommended.

Excerpt
Chapter One

Sergeant Major Wyatt Magnus pushed past the pain in his knee, forcing himself to finish a three-mile run in the sticky heat of south Texas. Thankfully his ribs had healed and his broken fingers had mended enough he could pull the trigger again. He didn’t anticipate needing to use the nine-millimeter Beretta tucked beneath his fluorescent vest. San Antonio wasn’t what he’d call a hot zone. Not like Somalia, his last real assignment.

It wouldn’t be long before his commander saw he was fit for combat duty, not playing the role of a babysitter for fat tourists, politicians and businessmen visiting the Alamo and stuffing themselves on Tex-Mex food while pretending to attend an International Trade Convention.

The scents of fajitas and salsa filled the air, accompanied by the happy cadence of a mariachi band. Twinkle lights lit the trees along the downtown River Walk as he completed his run around the San Antonio Convention Center and started back to his hotel. Neither the food, nor the music lightened his spirits.

Since being medevaced out of Somalia to San Antonio Medical Center, the combined armed forces’ medical facility, he’d been chomping at the bit to get back to where the action was. But for some damn reason, his commander and the psych evaluator thought he needed to cool his heels a little longer and get his head on straight before he went back into the more volatile situations.

So what? He’d been captured and tortured by Somali militants. If he hadn’t been so trusting of the men he’d been sent to train in combat techniques, he might have picked up on the signs. Staff Sergeant Dane might not be dead and Wyatt wouldn’t have spent three of the worst weeks of his life held captive. He’d been tortured: nine fingers, four ribs and one kneecap broken and had been beaten to within an inch of his life. All his training, his experience in the field, the culture briefings and in-country observations hadn’t prepared him for complete betrayal by the very people he had been sent there to help.

He understood why the Somali armed forces had turned him over to the residual al-Shabab militants that were attempting a comeback after being ousted from the capital, Mogadishu. He might have done the same if his family had been kidnapped and threatened with torture and beheading if he didn’t hand over the foreigners.

No, he’d have found a better way to deal with the terrorists. A way that involved very painful deaths. His breathing grew shallower and the beginning of a panic attack snuck up on him like a freight train.

Focus. The psych doc had given him methods to cope with the onset of anxiety that made him feel like he was having a heart attack. He had to focus to get his mind out of Somalia and torture and back to San Antonio and the River Walk.
Ahead he spied the pert twitch of a female butt encased in hot pink running shorts and a neon green tank top. Her ass was as far from the dry terrain of Somalia as a guy could get. Wyatt focused on her and her tight buttocks, picking up the pace to catch up. She was a pretty young woman with an MP3 device strapped to her arm with wires leading to the earbuds in her ears. Her dark red hair pulled back in a loose ponytail bounced with every step. Running in the zone, she seemed to ignore everything around but the path in front of her.

Once he caught up, Wyatt slowed to her pace, falling in behind. His heart rate slowed, returning to normal, his breathing regular and steady. Panic attack averted, he felt more normal, in control and aware of the time. As much as he liked following the pretty woman with the pink ass and the dark red, bobbing ponytail, he needed to get back and shower before he met the coordinator of the International Trade Convention.

Wyatt lengthened his stride and passed the woman, thankful that simply by jogging ahead of him, she’d brought him back to the present and out of a near clash with the crippling anxiety he refused to let get the better of him.
As he put distance between him and the woman in pink, he passed the shadow of a building. A movement out of the corner of his eye made him spin around. He jogged in a circle, his pulse ratcheting up, his body ready, instincts on high alert. The scuffle of feet made him circle again and stop. He crouched in a fighting stance and faced the threat, the memory of his abduction exploding in his mind, slamming him back to Somalia, back to the dry terrain of Africa and the twenty rebels who’d jumped him and Dane when they’d been leading a training exercise in the bush.

Instead of Somali militants garbed in camouflage and turbans, a small child darted out of his parents’ reach and ran past Wyatt, headed toward the edge of the river.

His mother screamed, “Johnnie, stop!”

By the time Wyatt grasped that the child wasn’t an al-Shabab fighter, the kid had nearly reached the edge.

Excerpt:

When she emerged from the shower tent, wearing her flip flops and carrying her boots and uniform, a  shadow slipped up beside her.

Before she could throw her boots at him, he slipped an arm around her waist, crushing her back against his front and clamping a hand over her mouth.

"Shh. It's me, Tuck." He dropped his hand from her mouth and turned her to face him.

"Damn it, Tuck. You can't go around scaring a girl to death all the time."

"You were so deep in thought, I'd have startled you either way. At least this way I get to hold you in my arms for a moment."

He wore a tank top, gym shorts and tennis shoes.

"How'd you find me?"

"I pulled a few strings." He bent to sweep her lips with his. "Are you mad?"

"I don't want anyone getting the idea we're fraternizing."

He eased her into the deeper shadows between a tent and a Quonset hut made of sturdy metal. "How's this?"

She raised her arms, pressed her body into his, her damp towel, T-shirt and flight suit dangling down his back. "Better." All he had to do was part her robe and...

Tuck slid his hand up the back of her thigh and beneath the edge of her robe, cupping her naked bottom. She'd gone to the shower with only her robe and what she'd been wearing, so flustered by her talk with Lindsay, she'd forgotten clean underwear and her pajamas.

Now she was glad she had.

BOOTS AND LACE
an UGLY STICK SALOON story
by Myla Jackson

BLURB

She wants no strings…but he wants it all.

After her philandering husband left her, Lacey Lambert found sanctuary, and a better class of friends, at the Ugly Stick Saloon. She learned that the best revenge—against her ex, and the “friends” who kicked her out of the Temptation Garden Club—is to live life to the fullest.

Now that her best friend is moving out of her apartment building, she’s feeling a little lonely. And more than ready for a little commitment-free sex with the hot new downstairs tenant.

Freshly divorced, Nick McBride isn’t looking for another failed relationship. But when the luscious brunette offers no-strings sex—with him and his brother—he can’t come up with a good reason to refuse.
After he gets over the shock that she likes it loud, long, and in front of an open window, he finds himself wanting more time with her. Maybe even on a permanent basis. But it’ll take every ounce of his cowboy charms to convince her to let him sweep her off her feet.

Warning: Contains a motorcycle-ridin’ cowboy, a wild-and-free woman who doesn’t care what the town biddies think, and semi-public sex loud enough to set tongues a-waggin’!
EXCERPT

Lacey slept like a baby through what was left of the night and awoke to sunshine, blue skies and a heart lighter than it had been since she’d come to Temptation five years ago.

A knock at her door had her tossing back the covers and running to answer. Maybe the boys…er…men downstairs had come for a second helping. She was up for it.

“Just a minute!” Lacey called out.

She finger-combed her hair with quick strokes, ran a quick toothbrush over her teeth, then raced from the bathroom to throw open the door, wearing a smile and nothing else.

Kendall’s brows rose and her mouth twisted as she fought a smile. “Oh, baby, glad you didn’t feel the need to get dressed on my account.”

A stab of disappointment made Lacey glance around Kendall and look toward the staircase.

“Nope. No one behind me. Ed had to work today and no one’s home in the apartment below.” Kendall’s brows dipped. “What did you do last night?” Her eyes widened. “You did Cory.”

“Relax.” A trace of heat rose up Lacey’s neck and into her cheeks. “I didn’t just pick on Cory.”

“What do you mean?”

“Cory has a roommate.” Lacey spun away, hugging herself around her middle. “Isn’t it a glorious day?” She flung out her arms and floated toward the window, yanking on the shade, sending it spinning up into the roll. Then she opened the window and leaned out, naked and loving it. “I f**ked two men last night and it was fabulous!”

TAKING AIM
Covert Cowboys Book #2
by Elle James aka Myla Jackson

BLURB

A kidnapping offers an FBI agent a second chance at redemption in Elle James's Covert Cowboys, Inc. miniseries.
After witnessing the murder of his partner, former FBI agent Zach Adams suffers the weight of his own guilt. An unexpected assignment hunting down the members of the Texas gang responsible—who have kidnapped a local woman—could offer long-awaited revenge.

Zach understands the danger of tracking the cartel, but it's his desire for the sister of the missing person that he fails to anticipate. Determined to find her twin, Jacie Kosart is as strong-willed as she is alluring. But when Zach's ruthless search for the kidnappers lands Jacie in the crosshairs of deadly enemies, Zach realizes he'll risk everything to keep her alive…even if it means confronting the demons of his own past.

EXCERPT

“Yeah, but not only are they putting themselves and the horses in danger, they’re putting the two of us at risk as well.” Jacie hesitated. “Come to think of it, maybe we should head back while there’s still enough light to climb the trail out of the canyon.”

Tracie sighed. “I was hoping you’d say that. I don’t want you to get hurt out here.”

“Me? I was more concerned about you. You haven’t been in saddle much since you joined the FBI.”

“You’re right, of course.” She smiled at Jacie. “Let’s get out of here.”

“Agreed. Let them be stupid. We don’t have to be.” Jacie turned her horse back the way they’d come and had taken the lead when the sharp report of gunfire echoed off the canyon walls.

“What the hell?” Jacie’s horse spun beneath her and it was all she could do to keep her balance.

Aramis reared. Tracie planted her feet hard in the stirrups and leaned forward, holding on until the gelding dropped to all four hooves.

More gunfire ensued followed by the pounding of hooves, the sound growing louder as it neared them.
Tracie yelled, “Go, Jacie. Get out of the canyon!”

Jacie didn’t hesitate, nor did her horse. She dug her heals into D’Artagnan’s flanks, sending him flying along the trail. She headed back the way they’d come, her horse skimming over the rocky ground, his head stretched forward, nostrils flared.

Before they’d gone a hundred yards, Rocky, the gelding Mr. Jones had been riding, raced past them, eyes wide, sweat lathered on both sides, sporting an empty saddle, no Mr. Jones. Rocky hit the trailhead leading out of the canyon, scrambling up the slope.

Jacie dared to glance over her shoulder.

Mr. Smith emerged from the fork in the canyon trail, yelling at Ginger, kicking her hard. Both leaned forward, racing for their lives.

by Elle James (aka Myla Jackson)

Blurb
The first book in the Billionaire Online Dating Service Series.

Skeptical billionaire takes a risk on a friend's online dating service and finds the cowgirl of his dreams, now he only has to convince her that he's her perfect match

Billionaire Online Dating Service. It's new, it's exclusive. Let's test it!

How did Billionaire Cooper Johnson allow himself to get roped into testing a brand new online dating system? After making a fortune day-trading stocks, he's on track to accomplish all his life goals, except marriage and a family. As a billionaire, meeting the right woman is a minefield of gold-diggers, false eyelashes and surgically enhanced women. The Billionaire Online Dating Service matches hand-picked, screened clientele with the mates of their dreams. Or so the package was sold. As a favor for a friend, Cooper finds himself on the Rockin' J Ranch confronting his "date's" four tough looking cowboy brothers. When their girl-next-door, long, tall, gorgeous sister steps out on the porch, Cooper doesn't know whether to run to her or away. One date, that's all he's signed up for and he can be out of there. Or will one date be enough?

She had everything—a fiancĂ©, a great future, love...until she lost it all

Still mourning the loss of her fiancé who died two years ago, Emma Jacobs can't imagine loving anyone else. But her four brothers won't quit pushing men her way. In a desperate attempt to throw her brothers off her back, she engages her friend's dating service to find a pasty-faced businessman sure to fail her brothers' husband criteria. Maybe then her brothers will finally back off and leave her alone.

Best laid plans tend to blow up in Emma's face. When her date turns out to be everything her brothers are looking for in a husband for Emma, she's got a bigger problem than she started out with. She lets Cooper in on her plan to have him date and dump her. Surprisingly he goes along with it. But Cooper has plans of his own. And they don't involve dumping the determined, sexy, independent cowgirl.

Note: Make a stop at Myla Jackson's Ugly Stick Saloon in this story and say hi to old friends.

Excerpt

For the first hour, Emma wanted to laugh at how her brothers put Cooper through his paces. They left him the heaviest bales and cracked crude jokes, perfectly playing the part of obnoxious country rednecks. She hadn't expected Cooper, a man who traded stock for a living, to last four minutes, much less four hours under the wilting heat and back-breaking work. But he'd hung in with the others, working just as hard and long. When he'd pulled off his shirt and Emma almost ran over a hay bale, she realized she might be in trouble. He wasn't at all what she'd wanted Leslie to send.

For a man who made his living behind a desk, he didn't have an ounce of flab and his chest was solid, tanned and positively drool-worthy.

Damn. If he didn't watch it, he'd earn a nod from her brothers and that wasn't the point of this whole exercise. Emma wanted this guy to run scared and for her brothers to rule him out as husband material. By the time they headed back to the barn, the men were all on first-name basis. Cooper laughed and joked right along with her brothers. She had to admit, she admired the man—for sticking it out, and for a lot of other things she'd been working hard for the past three hours to forget—pecs, arms, abs...

Out on the range, Emma wished she'd had reception on her cell phone. She'd have called Leslie and chewed her out for sabotaging her efforts to get her brothers off her back. Instead, she'd sat, stewing in her juices behind the steering wheel as she pulled into the barnyard.

When she climbed out of the truck and faced Cooper, who still had his shirt off, she forced herself to look away. "Thanks," she said.

"Yeah, thanks. We got that done a lot faster with your help." Ace pounded Cooper's back.

"Didn't think a stock trader had it in him, but you proved me wrong." Dillon slapped his cowboy hat against his dusty leg. "You're all right in my books."

Colton nodded. "Yup, you got a keeper there, Emma."

"Don't screw it up." Brand gave Emma a hug.

"Geez, Brand, you stink." Emma pushed him away, realizing she would have to do a lot more to convince her brothers this was the wrong man. She cocked her brows upward and gazed into Cooper's face, trying to act natural, knowing she was about to set him up for the fall. Literally. Hell, desperate times called for desperate measures. "Up for that picnic now?"

Cooper glanced down at his naked chest, gleaming with sweat. "I could do with a shower."

"Got one better than that." Emma went in for the first kill. "I'd planned on taking you to a little pool on Willow Creek where we could swim and enjoy the lunch Mrs. Fuentez packed.”

“That’s a great idea.” Dillon grinned. “Especially after sweating in the field. Who’s in?”

Ace backhanded Dillon in the gut. “I think they’d enjoy it better just the two of them.”

Cooper's lips twisted and he scrubbed a hand through his sweaty hair. “I didn’t bring a swimsuit.”

With an eyebrow arched, Emma smiled. “Swimsuits aren’t required.” She flounced away, her smile widening. “I’ll collect the food.” That would get her brothers’ dander up. Though she was twenty-five years old, they still treated her like the kid sister who had to be protected and coddled.

Skinny-dipping with a stranger should have all of their brotherly warning bells pinging.
